Actually was witness to one big one on the last day I was near Geelong headed back from my beach trip. The fire trucks were lined up one every 2-3 blocks on the main road with police de-touring traffic off...luckily we were headed in the opposite direction and if we had arrived 10-15 mins later might not have been able to get back to Melbourne! WHEW!! These fires are no joke - huge plumes of black smoke and with entire fields of dry grass everywhere, we saw at least 2-3 separate ones billowing out smoke like a mini-volcano...
